Somaliland: Remembering Ambassador Mohamed Sh. Hassan Nuriye Whitin Unique Family History In The Horn Of Africa

“Great heart is rightly considered the foremost of the virtues, for upon it, all others depend.” (Winston Churchill)

We are deeply saddened by the news of Mohamed sh. Hassan Nuriye passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.

Prayers and fond memories are what we have to remember our great man and may Allah and the love of his people comfort him in heaven. We will always remember his big heart, his bright smile paired with a gentle word.

People like Mohamed and his two brothers, Ismail and Adan, never truly depart but they live in our hearts, minds and history. Through us, they stay on in all generations as we look back into their legacy.

The three brothers lived and represented a remarkable history and left a legacy for our generations. Mohamed was an Ambassador for Somalia, his brother Ismail was an Ambassador for Ethiopia and Adan, now in Jabuti, was an Ambassador for Jabuti.

Colonial and post-colonial Horn of African leaders were, at different times, actors in territorially circumscribed different people. When the authenticity of people’s rights, land or wealth distribution is questioned, we, today, see how same people are separated by man-madate borders.

The three Ambassador brothers are, perhaps, the only of its nature in the whole world, who represented three different sovereign neighbouring countries during the 1990s.

They headed the diplomatic missions for their countries of Ethiopia, Djibouti and Somalia for other countries. That unique diplomatic phenomenon has never been in anywhere of the world but happened because the Ambassador’s people lived and still live in colonial drawn barriers or boundaries.

The brothers, in their different governments, is a typical model of post-colonial legacy of imbalance in political, territorial and public displacement. Peopling Horn of Africa in the late 19th century and its current social and political spectrum is an example of the African colonialist arbitrary creations.

These historical facts worth record as they explain the quagmire which impedes legitimacy of this part of the continent and to portray how it was put together in its present mosaic, as hand-made craft by its European rulers.

GOD BLESS THE SOUL OF AMBASSADOR MOHAMED SH. HASSAN AND HIS BROTHER ISMAIL WHO ALSO PASSED YEARS AGO.
